Statement of Jacqueline Pearce 9th February 2016 Central Hotel - Afternoon | was sitting at the wooden benche’: at the Central hotel on Thursday 4th February having a quiet drink to relax when | was invited by a group of younger men sitting at another wooden table on the outside stage area. | walked over to the group of younger men with my glass of wine and was sitting with them talking casually, getting to know them and making them feel welcomed in the town as they told me that they had come from afar for work. As it got later in the evening | told them that | must be leaving and said goodbye and left the Central Hotel to walk to Mc Donalds to get something to eat. | walked pass the BP service station on the opposite corner of Mc Donalds but was stopped by a man whom was new to town who was being harassed by the local police. | gave the man instructions for accommodation and gave him a cigarette before continuing on my walk to get a burger. After purchasing a burger | walked to the foreshore, wharfing area to sit and drink a can of bourbon and eat the burger in respect and memory of an old acquaintance that | had found out had died recently and the funeral had been held on Wednesday, the day before. After finishing the burger and sitting on the wharf for a while just to think to myself - tensions of the current events - | then walked back towards Mc Donalds to go home. As | passed Mc Donalds | noticed two police officers parked in the Mc Donalds carpark facing the main road next to the parked car of the younger men that | had been speaking to at the Central Hotel all that afternoon. The two officers seemed to be very concerned with their presence in Port Pirie and seemed to be harassing the men that | had been speaking to earlier. | called out to the younger men, who turned their heads in my direction as they heard my voice call out. “Oh my god “, “ Your kidding “, “ And now your hassling these guys too “, as | kept walking past. The two officers rushed upon me and struggled with me as they both took each side of my body with their body weight and aggressively slammed me down on to the bonnet of the police vehicle as they aggressively placed me into the handcuffs and placed me into the back seat of the police vehicle. | started to cry as the panic started to set in, of their intention of arresting me again and their concern with the younger men that | had been interacting with earlier. - intent. “Please don't let them take me “, “ Please come with me please”, | cried out to the younger man whom stood arguing with the police about the arrest. | pleaded with the younger man to not let them take me as he stuck his head through the gap of the open car door ( police vehicle ) trying to calm me down and reassure me that | was okay and that he would come with me. The two officers refused to allow the younger man to accompany me back at the Port Pirie police station as my need for comfort or support in this issue. The two officers closed the police vehicle door and escorted me back to the Port Pire police station and reversed the vehicle into a garage at the side of the station and closed the roller door, locking me in their with them. | started to panic as | did not trust the officers and feared the circumstances of being locked in a garage with them alone and in handcuffs. | feared an attack of a sexual nature due to the circumstances that have happened over the last five years. | placed my feet into a crouched upright position, ready to kick out at the officers, against the back door of the police vehicle in my defence as the older officer got out of the vehicle EFTA00266641

and walked towards the back door of the vehicle to open it. The officer noticed my legs in a crouched upright position ready to kick out at him and said before opening the back door of the vehicle, “ It's okay Jacqueline, just relax, calm down “. The older officer led me out of the garage and spoke to me in a calm manner before leading me back into the police station and removing my handcuffs and stood me in front of the open office cubicle window. The younger officer whom had followed us into the station produced a breathalyser test- ing unit and asked me to blow into it. | was a little hesitant and defensive due to the na- ture of my arrest - heavy handed - police brutality, and felt that | had been mistreated and wrongly arrested once again. | did not feel safe within their presence. The older officer grabbed the breathalyser unit and held it to my mouth and asked me to blow into again. | agreed and followed his instructions. A female officer then walked through the back door of the cubicle as the two male officers walked away back through the door into the station. The female officer then started to place rubber gloves onto her hands as if to do an internal search of my person. | started to panic and feared very much of the officer touching me in any way - sexual Intent - police brutality - and began to yell loudly in protest of being touched or searched by the female officer without my lawyer or Dr Kajani present. | feared that she was a lesbian as | had been receiving brutal and vicious harassment from an unknown source over a long period of time. | did not trust this female officer. | was placed into a padded cell and continued in my protest and panic of the situation. | became very defensive and scared to be isolated on their territory within their authority. | yelled out loudly abusive words and language as | play role through the extreme events of the terror that | had faced at the age of nineteen. | displayed the fear and the anger | felt towards the treatment that | had been receiving from the Port Pirie police department. Within about half an hour a older male police officer came to the locked cell door and asked me to step away from the door as he was watching me within the padded cell. | stepped away from the locked door and the male officer unlocked it and open it. | stepped into the open frame of the doorway fearing that the male officer would enter the cell and that | would be locked in their alone with him - sexual intent. He asked if | had calmed down yet. | answered “ NO, not really “. The older male officer then pushed me in the chest, pushing me backwards into the cell and said, “ Well get back in there then “, and locked the door once more and walked away. After about an hour | had snapped out of the mode of the panicked state that | was in and sat down onto the floor of the locked cell to wait for my release. | was then led from the locked padded cell back out to the open office cubicle area and was placed into the waiting cubicle directly opposite the office area and sat on the small wooden stool as | was handed a cup of water to drink. | was then led out of this area and stood waiting at the front of that area as the female officer proceeded to take my photograph for evidence and conviction. The older male officer returned to where | was standing with the female officer and ut- tered some words to the officer before replying, “ Just get her out of here before the boss gets back “, “ She's a pain in the arse “. | was offered a ride back to my place of residence by the female officer but | refused her offer as | do not trust being alone with the Port Pirie police. | left the police station and walked towards the service station across from Mc Donalds. | was offered a ride home by a taxi driver who recognised me as my son, Bos for the same company - Suburban Taxi’s. The taxi drivers name was Shane. Statement of concern As | was locked in the padded cell | overheard a woman who was being released from the lock up cells complaining that she was very sore in her vaginal region as she had been internally searched and had recently had an operation , surgery. She sounded as if she had been very upset but stifled and her voice was croaky as if in pain. | yelled from the padded cell, “ Go to the hospital girl and get an examination done “, “ The police are hurting people “. The woman did not answer me directly but had heard what | had said through her response.
