IMD received a letter from NARA (2nd attachment) based on a media report (15° attachment) the FBI was allegedly destroying records related to Epstein. Specifically, page 5 in the media report stats: “There are FBI servers,” said ex-agent-turned-whistleblower Garret O’Boyle, “and people inside the FBI have been working night and day to destroy files on these servers.” Any time there is an allegation of unauthorized destruction, NARA contacts the agency involved requesting additional information to either properly report the destruction and/or provide sufficient information that the allegation is unfounded. They also post this information on their public-facing website. Upon receipt, IMD contacts INSD for action. In this instance, INSD advised that they would not conduct an investigation without specific allegations such as date, documents, name, etc. IMD is in a position to audit emails/records in Sentinel, but we are not in a position to determine whether records outside of Sentinel have or have not been destroyed, nor are we in a position to conduct an investigation of such an allegation. Before we are able to respond to NARA, we have to “provide sufficient information to support that finding.” Would like your team’s input on other actions we can take to review these claims and respond accordingly. I've cc’d our Division POCs (Agency Records Officer ( and Unit Chief I) and our Division Counsel (HR) that can work with your teams to research further and a draft a response. Thank you, EFTA00173330
