Maxwell’s Lawyers Request She Be Released. The (7/10, Hong, Weiser, 18.61M) reports, “Lawyers for Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime companion of Jeffrey Epstein, sought to distance her from the disgraced financier on Thursday, saying in a new court filing that the two had no contact for more than a decade before his death in August 2019." Her attorneys wrote, “Ghislaine Maxwell is not Jeffrey Epstein.” On Thursday, they “asked a federal judge in Manhattan to release her from jail on $5 million bond, arguing that she did not pose a flight risk and had not been hiding from the authorities." The Times adds, “In proposing to release her into home confinement, her lawyers offered to secure the bond with six co-signers, including two of her sisters, and with property in the United Kingdom worth more than $3.75 million.” The (7/10, Jacobs, 14.2M) reports Maxwell's arraignment is slated to happen on Tuesday in Manhattan. According to the Post, “She is expected to appear via video from the Brooklyn detention center where she's being held.” Judge Alison Nathan “is expected to hear arguments over her bail request” (7/10, story 10, 1:58, Muir, 6.62M) reported Maxwell is “now being monitored closely. Her sheets reportedly taken away and she's been given paper clothing to wear to prevent any possibility of her harming herself.” According to correspondent Eva Pilgrim, Maxwell “vigorously denies’ charges she helped Epstein recruit, groom, and abuse three teenage girls in the mid 90s, and will ‘fight any allegations’ against her. But some of Epstein's alleged victims want her behind bars.” The (7/10, story 11, 0:25, Brennan, 3.95M) and (7/10, story 11, 0:23, Holt, 5.52M) provided similar coverage in brief broadcasts.
